Regional Roundup: Cox hits walk-off homer in 6-5 win
Comments 0 | Recommend 0Zac Cox allowed Havana to score the go-ahead run in the top of the 10th inning Tuesday, but the senior pitcher made up for it just moments later. Cox hit a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the 10th to seal a 6-5 win over the Ducks, as well as a regional semifinal date with No. 1 seed Macomb today at Macomb.
Cox earned the win for Rushville-Industry in relief. Starter Spencer McKeown struck out 10 but walked nine over the first seven innings.
McKeown went 2-for-4 at the plate with two runs and two RBIs.
Calhoun Regional
CALHOUN 10, DUPO 2
Trent Bick allowed just one earned run over 6 1/3 innings and the Warriors took a quarterfinal win over the Dupo Tigers Tuesday at Hardin. Bick allowed eight hits and one walk, while fanning six. David Baalman, Tucker Baalman, Aaron Peters and Hayden Sievers each had two hits apiece for Calhoun in the win.
Griggsville-Perry Regional
PLEASANT HILL 11, WEST CENTRAL 1, 5 INNINGS
Dylan Williams allowed four hits and one earned run over five innings, striking out eight in a regional win over West Central Tuesday. Dylan McKinnon and Evan Borrowman both homered in the win for Pleasant Hill. McKinnon also had a double, three RBIs and two stolen bases. Borrowman added a run, three RBIs and two steals.
Beardstown Regional
PORTA 15, NEW BERLIN-FRANKLIN-WAVERLY 4, 5 INNINGS
PORTA held New Berlin scoreless for the first four innings Tuesday and beat the Pretzels in five innings. New Berlin scored four runs in the fifth inning, but PORTA tacked on four more in the bottom half to win by the 10-run rule. Kody Kirkpatrick took the loss for New Berlin after allowing five hits and 11 runs over 1 2/3 innings.
Marquette Regional
GILLESPIE 5, NORTH GREENE 3
North Greene fell behind early and the Spartans made an early postseason exit after a loss to Gillespie on Tuesday. Luke Bishop took the loss for North Greene. Bishop allowed five hits and five runs over five innings, while walking two and fanning two. He was 2-for-4 at the plate.
Pawnee Regional
NORTHWESTERN 3, EDINBURG 1
John Ryan Hammond led the Northwestern baseball team to a regional win Tuesday, pitching a complete game three-hitter. Hammond allowed three hits and four walks, but struck out 10. He was 2-for-3 at the plate with a double.

Carrollton Regional
CARROLLTON 8, BRUSSELS 2
Erika Carter allowed just two hits and two unearned runs, and helped herself at the plate Tuesday as Carrollton beat Brussels at the Carrollton Regional. Carter went the distance and earned the win for Carrollton. She walked twice and drove in three runs with a triple. Michelle Meyer went 3-for-3 with a double and two RBIs for the Lady Hawks, and Megan Randolph was 2-for-4 with a double and three RBIs.
Edinburg Regional
VIRGINIA/A-C CENTRAL 7, SPRINGFIELD LUTHERAN 3
Virginia/A-C Central used a five-run second inning to get past Springfield Lutheran at the Edinburg Regional. Taylor Jokisch stayed perfect, earning her 16th win of the season. Taylor Jacobs went 2-for-3 with a double, a run and an RBI. Brittany Parks had a triple and three RBIs, and sophomore Kate Williams hit a solo home run for Virginia.
South Fulton Regional
GRIGGSVILLE-PERRY 2, WEST CENTRAL 1
Miranda Whitaker hit a one-out double that scored Aja Hurst in the seventh inning, and the Griggsville-Perry Lady Tornadoes took a narrow win over the West Central Lady Cougars. Lacy Emrick earned the win for Griggsville, pitching seven innings and allowing four hits. Dakota Nicholson took the loss for West Central, allowing three hits and one earned run.
Rushville-Industry Regional
RUSHVILLE-INDUSTRY 7, BRIMFIELD 3
Rushville-Industry pulled an upset Tuesday, beating top-seeded Brimfield at the Rushville Regional. Katy Simpson earned the win for Rushville. Chelsea Rhoades hit a three-run home run for the Lady Rockets and Amber Ward added a triple in the win.
Mendon Unity Regional
PAYSON SEYMOUR 9, BROWN COUNTY 0
Brown County’s season came to an end Tuesday at Mendon as the Lady Hornets lost to Payson Seymour. Payson scored one run in the first, and didn’t add to its total until the fourth inning, when the Indians scored four runs. Payson added four more runs in the sixth in the win.
